Sam Hammond has been selected to play in the 71st Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.
The game will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 15 at Wofford College's Gibbs Stadium.
Hammond, a 6-4, 290-pound lineman, has 22 pancake blocks and an 86 percent grade in six games on offense for the Yellow Jackets. He has 46 tackles, seven for loss and seven quarterback hurries on defense.
Hammond will play on the offensive line for the South Carolina Sandlappers. He's a D1 prospect and colleges may find Hammond a better fit on offense too.
Coaches are particularly impressed with his footwork.
"He does a great job for us on offense and defense," said coach David Lipsey. "He plays both ways most of the game. He's a team player and does what he can to help the team succeed."
"It's a big honor and well deserved. I think Sam is one of the top players in the state and the Shrine Bowl is an opportunity for him to showcase his talents on a big stage."
