Union County defeated Wade Hampton 7-3 on Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets scored on their opening possession, driving 74 yards in 10 plays. Marcus Whitener scored from 10 yards out.

Whitener had 142 yards on 21 carries for the game.

Wade Hampton answered with Patrick Morgano's 36-yard field goal, which finished out the scoring in the first quarter.

It was all defense the rest of the way.

Wade Hampton (2-2, 0-1) faced two fourth downs in Union County territory during the second quarter, including Shannon Stone being stopped at the 2-yard line.

Whitener got UCHS out of a jam in the fourth quarter. With the Jackets pinned on their 10-yard line, Whitener broke free on a 48-yard run. The run gave the Jackets breathing room and helped preserve the victory.

The Jacket defense stopped the Generals on their two final drives. Kelvin Booker sacked quarterback Nick Hartman on fourth down and a Hail Mary fell short.

UCHS (2-2, 1-0) travels to Clinton on Friday.
